The bullnose is a very common edge treatment in woodworking that is used on almost everything, from small mail slot dividers in desk drawers to stair treads to window sills. You can probably find at least one bullnose edge in the very room you're sitting in right now.

While a bullnose edge can be made with a Roundover and Beading Router Bit in two passes, a Bullnose Router Bit offers some distinct advantages. Infinity Tools offers two different types of Bullnose Router Bits: bearing-guided and non-bearing guided. Both of these styles are available in six different sizes, from 1/4" to 1-1/8" in diameter. Both types have their places in the workshop.

The first advantage of a Bullnose Router Bit over a Roundover Router bit is efficiency. A bullnose edge made in a single pass saves time, especially if you are making a lot of edge cuts. The next time you need to make a batch of stair treads or window sills for a house, you'll be happy to save half the time by making only one cut per edge with a bullnose router bit.

The second advantage: you can get a perfectly rounded edge without a small flat spot at the apex of the radius. This can be an issue when using a Roundover Router Bit to cut two sides of a board. If you use a roundover router bit, you won't have to spend a lot of time trying to set the exact height of the to eliminate the flat spot.

Bullnose Router Bits that don't have bearings can also be used in CNC machines, and are a perfect choice when you need to get into tight places. Regardless of the type, all Infinity Tools Bullnose Router Bits are laser marked with the bit's bead height to make it easy to identify the thickness of material the bit is designed to work with.

Bullnose Router Bits can also be used to make bead profiles. These make great additions to many projects.

Since they have a shoulder cutter on both the top and bottom of the bit, Bullnose Router Bits can also be used to make bead profiles on the edges of boards. These shoulder cutters create the standing bead on the edge of a workpiece which can either be left in place or ripped free and used as a separate molding detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this bullnose set include a bearing guide?

Yes. This 5-piece set is bearing-guided, so each bit follows your stock or a template for consistent half-round profiles. Browse more edge-forming router bits.

What shank size do these bits require?

All five bits have a 1/2" shank and require a router with a 1/2" collet, which provides the stability needed for these larger half-round profiles.

What is included in the set?

The set (00-547) includes five bearing-guided bullnose bits (items 54-520, 54-521, 54-522, 54-523, and 54-524) plus a medium Infinity Tools wooden router bit storage box (BOX-100).

What is a bullnose router bit used for?

A bullnose bit mills a half-round (two roundovers) edge in a single pass, making it ideal for stair treads, shelves, and window sills. The bearing also lets you bullnose the edge of curved pieces.

Can these bits follow a template for curved work?

Yes. Because each bit is bearing-guided, you can follow a template to bullnose the edges of curved pieces, not just straight stock. Pair with our router templates for repeatable shapes.

What bead heights does the set cover?

The set covers bead heights of 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and 1", letting you match the half-round profile to a range of material thicknesses.

Is this set better used handheld or in a router table?

Bearing-guided bullnose bits are perfect for use in the router table, where the bearing makes fence setup quick and the larger bits run more safely.

Does the set come with storage?

Yes. The set includes a medium Infinity Tools wooden router bit storage box (BOX-100) to keep the five bits organized and protected.

How is this different from the non-bearing bullnose set?

This version adds a bearing guide to each bit and an attractive wood storage case, making fence setup easier and enabling template routing of curved pieces. See more carbide router bits.
