Regular price $39.90

Create Perfect-Fitting Inlays with Your Router!

Our wood inlay kit comes with a solid brass bushing system, a 1/4" shank solid carbide spiral router bit, and a centering pin. This kit allows you to cut perfect-fitting inlays in any shape using templates 0.200"-thick (13/64") or thicker. (See our MLIS Multi-Layer Inlay System.)

The procedure is simple:

  1. Cut the inlay stock with the sleeve installed on the template guide.
  2. Remove the sleeve and cut the recess in the workpiece with the template guide bushing.

Bushing fits any router base with a 1-3/8" opening for our brass template guides or Porter-Cable-style template guides.

The kit includes a solid-carbide down-cut spiral bit (85-102) with 1/8" cutter diameter, template guide with sleeve, and centering pin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in the brass inlay kit?

The kit includes a solid brass bushing system with removable sleeve, a 1/4" shank solid carbide down-cut spiral bit (item 85-102) with a 1/8" cutter diameter, and a centering pin for accurate setup. Explore our solid carbide spiral bits.

How do I cut a matching inlay and recess?

Cut the inlay stock with the sleeve installed on the template guide, then remove the sleeve and cut the recess in the workpiece using the template guide bushing. The sleeve's offset produces a perfect-fitting joint.

What shank size is the included router bit?

The included solid carbide spiral bit has a 1/4" shank and a 1/8" cutter diameter, so it fits any router that accepts a 1/4" collet.

What router bases is the bushing compatible with?

The bushing fits any router base with a 1-3/8" opening designed for brass template guides or Porter-Cable-style template guides.

How thick should my templates be?

You can cut inlays in any shape using templates that are 0.200" thick (13/64") or thicker.

Why does the kit include a centering pin?

The centering pin aligns the router precisely with the bit during setup, ensuring the template guide is centered so your inlays and recesses match accurately.

What is a down-cut spiral bit best for here?

A solid-carbide down-cut spiral bit shears fibers downward for clean, splinter-free edges on the top surface, which is ideal for crisp inlay work. See more solid carbide spiral bits.

Can I make inlays in custom shapes?

Yes. The kit allows you to cut perfect-fitting inlays in any shape, limited only by the templates you make or buy. Pair it with our router templates.

Who makes this inlay kit?

It is made by Infinity Cutting Tools, using precision-machined brass components and a solid carbide spiral bit.

Can I buy replacement bits for the kit?

Yes. The kit uses the solid-carbide down-cut spiral bit item 85-102, and you can browse our full range of carbide router bits for replacements and additional sizes.
