It won't unexpectedly open or close on you while in use.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnd it has three retractable push pads on the back end, beneath the handle, to help push your stock through your cutter.  Manually advance them as you need to hook your work and help guide the block through your cut.
